I posted a quote several days ago, one I found in a letter written by George Washington to his nephew about becoming a man. After more consideration, I still agree with most of what he said. However, I have a problem with one word: “deserve.” Washington claimed that, by inquiring, we can discover who is deserving of help vs. who isn’t.
I can understand where he is coming from....
It’s amazing how far we will go to justify our sin!
It only will destroy…it only will cause us strife in the end.
Our Father beckons us out of our rusty cage of excuses and emptiness.
Frustrated with people today (myself very much included)! How willingly we settle!
Let your heart feel for the affliction, and distresses of every one, and let...

Happy Daughter's Day →
andiemiller:
You are loved. You are forgiven. You are righteous. Not because of anything you can do, but only because of what Jesus has already done… remember these paltry bobbles aren’t anything in comparison to one drop of that precious blood. His work has made you his, and he has given you an eternal identity. You are his beloved daughter in whom he is well pleased.

Speaking the truth (in love)
I have always found it so easy to be a listener. I love sitting down with someone and hearing their heart. This is a very positive thing! I am aware that it is a gift to be a good listener and a loving thing to do. People yearn for their voices to be heard.
On the other hand, I often hesitate to express my thoughts when I fear they won’t be received. It is scary for me to be direct, even...
Hometown
Though it’s not technically my “hometown,” Chris and I visited Yuma this weekend. Let’s just call it my heart’s hometown. It represents to me what I hear others describing hometowns as. Our family was perpetually moving throughout my childhood, and therefore this weekend I discovered a new mix of emotions, this “going back” feeling. For the first time in...

Oh hi,: Awake from your slumber. →
katorkat:
“It takes supernatural grace. Instead of waking up and immediately consulting my emotions by asking, “How am I feeling right now?” or “What do I want to get out of today?” or “How can I avoid the discomfort of getting out of bed right now?”, I have to call on the grace of God to ask an entirely…

having a boy roommate is fun (although I suppose it has to be the right boy!). I grew up sharing space with my sister, then in college with roommates. So you could say I’m very accustomed to having a limited amount of privacy. Moving in with my husband felt…natural. Especially because he’s not only my love, he’s my bud. That’s what we call each other.

I don't like Las Vegas
but I like the people we will be hanging out with this weekend a whole lot.
Chris’s dad is kindly flying us out to Vegas tomorrow morning to join his parents on their mini-vacation. Although neither of us particularly enjoy the city, it will be a joy to see his family.
As if marrying the best man in the world wasn’t enough, I was welcomed into an amazing family. They have been warm...
As senseless acts of violence happen again…and again…and again…
as they have happened before and no doubt will continue to happen…
I see shocked people question “what is this world coming to??”
And I am reminded that all along, our world has been coming to this. Where else would it go? Why would a world filled with beings who ignore their Maker thrive? Our...

He took me on late night car rides and listened while I processed and rambled and cried and made angry fists.
He held my hand though I was so scared. I desperately wanted to run.
He didn’t leave when things weren’t easy anymore. Butterflies, you know the stomach ones?, are there and then gone. But not his love. His love stayed.
He fell in love with me, and I him.
He is a...
We change
so quickly don’t we?
Our youth is a confusing time. We seek ourselves in others or in clothing or in the kind of music we listen to.
Our adulthood is a confusing time as well, for different reasons. (Or maybe they’re not so different.)
The point is, we are ever-changing beings. Praise the Lord.
We are alive.
Today is my mama’s birthday :)
Happy birthday mom! I love you more than you’ll ever know.

Examine humankind. Take a step back and look at us! As a future social studies teacher, I am fascinated by history as well as our contemporary society. Man oh man. We are hypocritical creatures who point anywhere but at ourselves! We always have been. And yet we preen our feathers as if we are so civilized compared to our ancient ancestors. No, my dear fellow man. We may have our gadgets and...
Life-with all of the heartbreak and good memories and pain that threatens to rip you to shreds and explosive joy-is too big to put into words. There is no way language can touch the unspeakable beauty of a man holding a woman’s hand 60 years after giving her his heart. Nor is there a way to describe the cracking of one’s very soul when one is rejected. As humans we feel, and we feel...
There is hope. So much hope. Life is hard. But there is hope.
Vessel: A hollow container
I am the Lord’s vessel. His Spirit lives in me.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have experienced heartache after heartache due to excessive worrying about the shape of this vessel and comparing it to all of the other vessels.
Why do I care so much about something that will turn to dust?
Lord save me from this cage.
Spring Break 2013
Tomorrow, Mr. Cunningham and I are California-bound. Our dear friends Ricky and Lindsey are joining us on this grand adventure. Six Flags, Universal Studios, and the BEACH here we come!
I am so eager to stand on the edge of our country once again, gazing out at the vast Pacific ocean. A piece of my soul is awakened when my senses are touched by God’s great blue expansion. I have been...

Downtown Poetry
This weekend blew my socks off. I had the wonderful opportunity to watch my best friend/hunky husband be filmed performing some spoken word. He is so talented. We went downtown where it was bustling with people to film the video. I stood by watching and helped a bit while our new friend creating the project held the camera. I have always been very aware of Christopher’s skills. However, I...
Childhood dreams
1) Own four horses, eight dogs, and several bunnies
2) Teach a one-room schoolhouse full of farmer children (like Laura Ingalls Wilder)
3) Meet a prince, have some babies
These are still my dreams. My life is His-things may look different. But my little girl’s heart beats on :)
